How to Get Started
- This is an optional program open to students, faculty, and staff.
- Purchase one container for $10 from the cashier at any time. Cash or SJC 1Card accepted.
- Only approved Greenie containers will be accepted.
How the program works
- Bring your Greenie with you to the dining hall. You will also receive a disposable utensil kit + cup with lid.
- Fill your Greenie (lid must be able to close) and take it with you outside the dinning center. Eating from a green food container is not permitted inside dining hall.
- After eating your meal, hold onto your container. We’ll swap your used and rinsed container for a sanitized Greenie on your next visit.
- Repeat and enjoy!
FAQ
Q – If I eat a meal in the dining hall can in then use my container and take another meal to go?
A – No, you must exit with the green container or you will be charged for a 2nd meal
Q – Can I eat a meal in the dining hall using my container?
A – That is not the intention of the program. It is preferred that you take your meal to go if using the green container.
Q – What happens if I lose my container?
A – In order to continue to participate in the program, you’ll need to purchase a new container for $10.
Q – What happens if I forget to bring my container to the dining hall and I’d like my meal to go?
A – You can dine in. Or you will need to purchase another one for $10.
Q – How much food can I take with me?
A – The program is designed to allow you to take a balanced meal. The box will need to close for food safety reasons.
Q – Am I able to use 2 containers at the same time?
A – No.
Q – Can I return the container when I’m done with it?
A – Yes, but you can also hold on to it for subsequent usage year over year.
